Dr. John Wittpenn, MD
About
John Wittpenn, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist with more than 18 years of experience as a refractive surgeon, cataract surgeon and corneal specialist.
Dr. Wittpenn graduated summa cum laude from Amherst College with a Bachelor’s degree in Biophysics and received his medical degree from The John Hopkins School of Medicine. After completing his ophthalmology residency at the Wilmer Institute at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Wittpenn served as a Cornea Clinical and Research Fellow at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School. He then served as the Director of Ophthalmology Residency Training at the University of Southern California Los Angeles County Medical Center.
In 1988, Dr. Wittpenn joined the faculty at the State University of New York at Stony Brook as Director of Cornea, Cataract and Anterior Segment Surgery. He currently remains a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Dr. Wittpenn is a distinguished member of a number of professional medical societies including the American Medical Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association of Researchers in Vision and Ophthalmology, Long Island Ophthalmological Society, Suffolk County Ophthalmological Society, and New York State Ophthalmological Society.
