Dr. James S. Lewis, MD

James S. Lewis, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist with specialty fellowship training in cornea, external disease and anterior segment surgery. Dr. Lewis is a member of the prestigious Wills Eye Surgical Network and has performed more than 8,000 laser eye procedures. For his groundbreaking surgical achievements, Dr. Lewis won second place at an American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery research competition. This award-winning technique is now taught worldwide as part of the required ophthalmology curriculum.

James S. Lewis, MD, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics at Princeton University and completed his medical degree at Thomas Jefferson University — Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. Dr. Lewis performed an internship at St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center in San Francisco, and later, an ophthalmology residency at Duke University Eye Center, where he served his last year as Chief Resident. He completed a cornea, external disease and anterior segment surgery fellowship at Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, Australia. Currently, Dr. Lewis serves as the Director of Cataract, LASIK and Corneal Surgery at The Eye Institute at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry of Salus University, in Philadelphia. He is a member of the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He lectures nationally and internationally on thin-flap LASIK (SBK), Epi-LASIK and implantable contact lenses.
