Eduardo Alfonso, MD, received his undergraduate and medical degree from Yale College. He conducted his residency in ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of the University of Miami School of Medicine. His fellowship training in corneal and external diseases was performed at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School. Dr. Alfonso is a professor of ophthalmology and the Edward W.D. Norton Chair of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He is internationally recognized for his work in treatment of the cornea. The focus of his medical practice includes corneal transplantation and laser refractive surgery. His research interests include methods to eliminate infection during corneal surgery.
