About
Ella G. Faktorovich, MD, is the Director of the Pacific Vision Institute. She earned her undergraduate degree with honors, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of California, Berkeley. She received her medical degree with honors from University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. She also performed her residency in ophthalmology at UCSF. After residency, she completed a two-year specialized fellowship training program in cornea and refractive surgery at the world-renowned Jules Stein Eye Institute of the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine. She completed award winning research in corneal wound healing and has become a leader in the San Francisco and Northern California Region for refractive surgery. She was the first surgeon in the San Francisco area to perform automated lamellar keratoplasty — the precursor to LASIK surgery, and she developed methods for intra-corneal implantation of ultra-thin lenses. Dr. Faktorovich has published numerous scientific journal articles and book chapters on corneal transplantation and laser and refractive surgery. She has won many awards for her work. She is also the founder and current Chairperson of the San Francisco Cornea Symposium that attracts the top corneal surgeons from around the world every spring. Dr. Faktorovich has been elected to the Best Doctors of America.
