Dr. Francisco Canales, MD
About
Francisco Canales, MD, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Harvard College and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Stanford University. He completed his surgical training and residency in plastic surgery at Stanford University Hospital. While practicing in Boston, Dr. Canales returned to his Alma Mater, serving as a faculty member at Harvard Medical School, where he met his wife and fellow surgeon, Dr. Furnas. Upon relocating to Sonoma County, he served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and Chief of Surgery at Sutter Warrack Hospital.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Dr. Canales continues to give back to the communities of Latin America by donating his time, skill and expertise to repair cleft lip and other birth defects in children from Nicaragua, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Argentina. In addition, he represented his homeland in the 1976 Montreal Olympics as a member of Puerto Rico’s national swim team.
Highly regarded by his peers, Dr. Canales is a member of several prestigious medical associations, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the California Society of Plastic Surgeons.
