Richard Chaffoo, MD, FACS, FICS, is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery — a distinction held by few other doctors performing cosmetic and plastic surgery. In addition, Dr. Chaffoo has completed advanced fellowship programs at Stanford University Medical Center and the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center. In recognition of his extensive training and experience, Dr. Chaffoo was named President of the San Diego Plastic Surgery Society and Chief of Plastic Surgery at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas. Richard Chaffoo, MD, FACS, FICS, completed his undergraduate degree with summa cum laude honors at Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina. He then received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Wake Forest University Bowman-Gray School of Medicine in Salem, North Carolina. He completed two surgical residencies, giving him a total of seven years of advanced training in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. In addition, he performed three postgraduate fellowships in facial plastic surgery, head and neck oncologic surgery, and burn surgery at prestigious universities including Stanford University Medical Center, UCSD, and Oregon Health and Sciences University. Dr. Chaffoo holds a voluntary faculty appointment in the Department of Surgery, UCSD School of Medicine and a previous appointment as a clinical instructor at Stanford University Medical Center. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Head and Neck Society, the American College of Surgeons, the International College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery amongst others.
